Wooden edge protectors for load securing
Edge protectors are used to protect sensitive and sharp edges from damage, as well as straps or belts used in lashing or securing loads from wear and tear. Edge protectors for load securing are available as angles or profiles (U-profile, L-profile, etc.). Edge protection profiles protect the entire length of the edge and are available by the meter, whereas edge protection angles only protect the corner at the point where the tensioning strap or strapping band is intended to make contact. Edge protectors are also available in various materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, plastic, wood, or PVC, and in different colors such as black, white, or transparent for sensitive edges. The choice of suitable edge protector depends on the type of load, the lashing technique used, and the lashing straps, tensioning straps, or strapping bands employed. Customers can choose from options for transporting heavy goods, for loads with corners requiring special protection, and for steel or glass panels (e.g., rubber profiles).

Edge protection in laws and regulations
The use of edge protectors or edge protection profiles is prescribed and described in detail in various regulations concerning cargo securing in trucks, trailers, or containers, as well as in instructions for lifting operations. These regulations are based on Section 22 of the German Road Traffic Regulations (StVO), which stipulates that cargo must be secured before every transport in such a way that it cannot slip, roll, or fall out of the transport vehicle, even during emergency braking or sudden steering maneuvers. If cargo shifts in the truck, it can destabilize the vehicle, potentially leading to serious traffic accidents. The StVO emphasizes that the "recognized rules and techniques" must be fully observed. These, in turn, can be found in European DIN standards (e.g., DIN EN 12195-2 "Lashing straps made of synthetic fibers"), publications of the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV), Guideline 2700 of the Association of German Engineers (VDI), and information from the employers' liability insurance associations. These documents contain information on the proper nature and use of lashing materials, as well as on the necessary aids for load securing.
DIN EN 12195-2 “Lashing straps made of chemical fibres”
Regarding the function of edge protectors, DIN EN 12195-2 “Lashing straps made of chemical fibres” points out that lashing straps and strapping bands must be protected from friction and abrasion as well as from damage caused by sharp edges by means of protective covers and/or edge protectors.
Publications of the German Statutory Accident Insurance
The umbrella organization of the German statutory accident insurance institutions also warns, for example in the information leaflet "Metal construction assembly work", that lifting equipment must not be pulled over sharp edges unless these are adequately protected by edge protectors.
Corner protection in the guidelines of the employers' liability insurance associations
In their guidelines for specific professions and trades, detailed, job-related loading scenarios are described, along with optimal solutions for securing cargo. In its guide "Loading and Securing," a standard reference work for load securing, particularly for professional drivers, the German Social Accident Insurance Institution for Transport and Traffic (BG Transport) requires, for example, the protection of lashing straps from mechanical damage caused by sharp-edged cargo using edge protectors. Furthermore, it points out that edge protectors improve the transfer of forces applied to the lashing strap.
Your professional load securing shop
With us, you'll always find top-quality load securing equipment, load securing aids, and accessories at attractive prices. We offer our customers a wide range of products and the perfect accessories for every load securing situation. On our advice pages, you'll also find valuable information such as our load securing calculator for determining the required straps and webbing, explanations of laws, standards, regulations, and guidelines, as well as concrete examples of proper transport securing.
Load securing to protect road users and the environment
Around 70 percent of goods transported in Germany are either unsecured or inadequately secured, causing hundreds of millions of euros in damages every year. The number of personal injuries and environmental damages is correspondingly high. We see load securing, and therefore also edge protection, as a contribution to road safety, environmental protection, and a sustainable economy.

Wooden edge protection profiles in the online shop
In addition to our metal or plastic edge protectors and our custom-length angle profiles made of patented honeycomb plastic, our shop also offers wooden edge protectors. These feature a non-slip surface and a flexible radius that adapts perfectly to the edge, ensuring even force distribution and increasing the contact area. Our wooden edge protector profile is ideal for loading and securing barrels, boxes, IBCs, pails, and pallets. The standard version of this affordable protective profile measures 850 x 185 x 25 millimeters and is suitable for lashing straps, ratchet straps, and strapping bands with a width of 25 to 100 millimeters. These edge protectors are available individually (one piece) in our online shop.
