Retractable bollards

Retractable bollards, which can be lowered manually or automatically, represent the most sophisticated form of bollard technology. They completely prevent unauthorized access or illegal parking. These bollards are either folded down into a horizontally embedded concrete base or retracted into a vertically recessed base. With retractable bollards, the base is also embedded in concrete; however, drainage should always be installed beneath the base to prevent the bollard from rusting in standing water. Retractable steel bollards are usually hot-dip galvanized for additional rust protection. For effective closure of public areas, specially designed metal bollards can also be equipped with barrier chains.

Unlike metal bollards, plastic bollards are flexible barriers whose light weight allows for easy relocation and which are significantly less expensive than posts made of steel (steel tubing), stainless steel, or galvanized steel. Plastic bollards can be struck and even driven over by cars and commercial vehicles without sustaining major damage. Plastic bollards self-right after being knocked down or driven over, resulting in a very long lifespan. Plastic bollards are usually made of polyurethane (PU) because this material is weather-resistant, robust, and flexible.
