Wheel chocks for trucks and trailers

Wheel chocks protect trucks, truck trailers, cars, car trailers, caravans, motorhomes, and multi-axle vehicles from rolling away when stationary. The chocks are placed in front of at least one wheel of the vehicle and prevent it from rolling by locking it in place. For certain vehicle types, carrying and using wheel chocks when stationary is legally required by the German Road Traffic Regulations (StVO) and other standards and regulations. Legal provisions and regulations for wheel chocks

The following motor vehicles and trailers must be equipped with at least one wheel chock in accordance with Section 41 Paragraph 14 of the German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO), (as of October 19, 2012):

• Motor vehicles (except tracked vehicles) with a permissible total weight of more than 4 t,
• Two-axle trailers (except for semi-trailer, rigid drawbar and central axle trailers) with a permissible total weight of more than 750 kg.

The following vehicles and trailers must be equipped with at least two wheel chocks in accordance with this regulation:

• Semi-trailer
• Rigid drawbar trailers and central axle trailers with a permissible total weight of more than 750 kg,
• Three-axle and multi-axle vehicles.

When wheel chocks are not in use, for example while driving, they must be securely and easily accessible in a holder inside the vehicle or trailer so that they cannot roll around, rattle, or get lost. Hooks or chains (e.g., round steel chains or S-hooks) must not be used as holders for wheel chocks.

According to Section 31b of the German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO), drivers are obligated to present or hand over to the relevant regulatory authorities (e.g., police, public order office) the items required to be carried in accordance with these regulations, including wheel chocks, for inspection. Operating a vehicle or trailer, whether intentionally or negligently, without properly carrying a wheel chock constitutes a traffic violation according to Section 69a, Paragraph 3, No. 13 of the StVZO and is punishable by a fine.

Important markings for wheel chocks: Nominal size and wheel load

According to DIN 76051, wheel chocks must be marked with their permissible nominal size and wheel load. The nominal size corresponds to the static tire radius. If a tire has a radius of 900 mm, it has a tire radius of 450 mm. Accordingly, a wheel chock with a nominal size of NG 46 (up to a maximum of 460 mm) must be used. For a tire radius of up to 1060 mm (530 mm tire radius), wheel chocks with a nominal size of NG 53 must be used.

Wheel load is defined as half the axle load, based on the vehicle's maximum axle load. Each axle is marked with an axle load rating. This indicates the maximum weight that axle may bear. Single or dual tires are irrelevant in this calculation.

DIN 76051 also specifies the dimensions and formats that wheel chocks must have; these are:

• NG 46 160x180x370 mm (W x H x L)
• NG 53 200x230x470 mm (W x H x L)

Wheel chock set with bracket and chain : This set includes a wheel chock with nominal size 53 for wheels of large commercial vehicles, trucks, and trailers, along with the matching bracket and a knotted chain for permanently attaching the chock to the vehicle's loading ramp. This knotted chain, compliant with DIN 5686 and 5685, protects the chock from theft and loss. The knotted chain comes in a pre-assembled coil with a length of 5.00 meters.

STRONG rubber wheel chock/wheel wedge, nominal size 46: This indestructible and lightweight wheel chock made of vulcanized new rubber is suitable for securing trucks, as well as for securing rolls and coils and fixing round cargo on the truck. The non-slip rubber and the serrated base of the support reliably hold the load in position. This chock (color: black) is also more robust and durable than sheet metal wheel chocks and is rustproof. The vulcanized new rubber also protects tires from damage.

Pallet truck safety device "TopStop" . This device prevents the pallet truck from slipping or rolling away while in motion. The robust yet lightweight plastic construction is always ready for use and requires little space. Measuring 320 x 250 x 43 mm, it is compatible with many pallet truck models.
