Buy lifting operations in the warehouse and during transport
Round slings, also known colloquially as loops, are, like shackles or lifting straps, classified as lifting slings. They are indispensable tools in lifting technology, for example as crane slings, for transporting and securing heavy loads. Round slings serve as a connection between the lifting device (e.g., a crane hook) and the load. They can also connect the load-bearing device (e.g., a round sling with a carabiner, shackle, hook, or grab) to the load. Round slings are also used in load securing, specifically in the head lashing method. In this process, the sling is placed around the load and secured using lashing straps. The sling thus replaces lashing points that are not present on the load itself.

As a textile lifting device, it, like the textile lifting sling, has a clear advantage over chains and other metal lifting devices:
- lighter weight
- lightweight and space-saving storage
- easy maintenance and testing
- less dangerous to handle
- non-rusting
Our round slings and round sling sets made of high-performance polyester are suitable for professional loading and lifting operations and comply with all applicable standards and regulations.
Safety instructions for the use of lifting equipment
Lifting heavy loads, for example with a hook or carabiner, poses immense dangers for loading and transport personnel. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that load securing equipment, load securing aids, lifting gear, and all machinery used comply with all safety regulations and are regularly inspected. Personnel entrusted with the loading and transport process must be familiar with all relevant laws and regulations and be trained to implement them properly and responsibly. The use of materials and equipment that do not comply with applicable standards and regulations, as well as the use of personnel who are not trained in their duties, is a criminal offense that can be punished with penalties ranging from minor offenses to imprisonment, depending on the extent of the damage caused! It is also crucial to be aware of the correct markings on webbing slings, lifting straps, and other lifting gear with regard to parameters such as breaking load, load-bearing capacity, and load-bearing capacity.
Guidelines, regulations and standards for round slings
The general and well-known rules regarding the use and properties of lifting equipment such as round slings and webbing slings have the force of law. A distinction must be made between the rules for the "Use of webbing slings and round slings made of synthetic fibers" (DGUV Information 209-061), the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, which specifies the marking of round slings (color, label), and the European Standard DIN EN 1492-2 (EN standard) "Round slings made of synthetic fibers for general purposes".
The use of round slings
DGUV Information 209-061 contains essential information on the use of round slings and other lifting straps. This includes precautionary measures, such as the fact that webbing slings and lifting straps, despite their thick protective sheathing, must not be pulled over sharp edges, and how loads must be additionally secured against falling. Temperature ranges, contact with chemicals, and the safety-related and mandatory testing, storage, and maintenance are also covered in detail. An important section is the load table for round slings and lifting straps.
The marking of the loops
Two components must be considered when marking the loops:
- The color of the sheathing on the round sling indicates its tensile strength/working load limit (WLL). The following standardized color coding applies (values given in tons, see DGUV Information 209-061):
- violet = 1.0
- green = 2.0
- yellow = 3.0
- grey = 4.0
- red = 5.0
- brown = 6.0
- blue = 8.0
- orange = 10.0 (also over 10 t) - Another important component of the marking is the labeling (label) and the information it contains, as specified in the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. This includes the following:
- WLL = Working load limit in the lifting method directly, specified in tonnes
- Material: PES = Polyester, blue label; PA = Polyamide, green label; PP = Polypropylene, brown label
- Usable length in meters
- Year of manufacture
- Manufacturer's identification mark DD
- Traceability code
- GS mark and testing facility
- CE marking
- Indication of the applicable standards
Not every depicted lifting method is suitable for every load lifting application!
Specifications of DIN EN 1492-2
The European standard DIN EN 1492-2:2009-05 "Textile lifting equipment - Safety - Part 2: General-purpose man-made fiber round slings; German version EN 1492-2:2000+A1:2008" contains important formal instructions for the use of round slings, such as
- Definition and terms
- Hazards
- Safety requirements including details on the required material properties, processing, lengths and marking, load-bearing capacity, protection and storage.
- Review of security requirements with sub-chapters on staff qualifications, testing
- Labeling
- Manufacturer's certificate
- Instructions for use (including manufacturer's instructions)
Round slings and round sling sets at attractive prices in the online shop for load securing
In our online shop, you will find a wide variety of professional webbing slings for use as lifting straps or for professional lashing during head lashing. We stock this tool in all common load capacities from 1000 to 6000 WLL (Working Load Limit). The core of this high-quality and robust load securing tool is made of highly stable polyester filament yarn (PES). The surrounding polyester sleeve is impregnated with polyurethane (PU). The special weaving technique of our PES multifilament guarantees high lateral stability and excellent abrasion resistance. In accordance with DIN EN 1492-2, each polyester round sling has a double jacket. The polyester sleeve is color-coded, marked with a load capacity indicator stripe, and features the mandatory safety label. The material blend we use is the first choice for the production of double-jacketed round slings because it guarantees excellent elongation properties with high strength and load capacity, while maintaining a low weight. The loops are UV-stabilized and characterized by low moisture absorption without loss of strength. They are also heat-resistant and frost-resistant from -40 °C to +100 °C. The safety label is securely sewn on.
The lifting slings are available in the following pre-configured lengths (specified in meters):
- WLL 1000 = 0.5 / 1 / 1.5 / 2 / 2.5 / 3 / 3.5 / 4
- WLL 2000 = 0.5 / 1 / 1.5 / 2 / 2.5 / 3 / 3.5 / 4
- WLL 3000 = 1 / 1.5 / 2 / 2.5 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6
- WLL 4000 = 0.5 / 1 / 1.5 / 2 / 2.5 / 3 / 4
- WLL 5000 = 1 / 2 / 3 / 4
- WLL 6000 = 1 / 2 / 3 / 4
Of course, slings in custom lengths and with working load limits up to 50,000 kg are available upon request. Our webbing slings are available individually (each) or in cost-effective round sling sets with both identical and different working load limits.
Instructions for use of our professional round slings
- Lifting straps/round slings may only be used for lifting and transporting loads.
- Only trained and authorized persons may use lifting straps or round slings.
- Lifting slings/round slings must not be loaded beyond their load-bearing capacity! Only suitable lifting slings, round slings, anchor points and anchor types may be selected.
The following factors should be taken into account:
- Weight, dimensions, surface area and center of gravity of the load.
- The maximum tilt angle is 60°. Observe the load-bearing capacity factors!
- Always check the application area against specified temperature ranges, contact with chemicals, or other environmental factors. Incorrect selection can lead to breakage of the lifting strap or round sling!
- Lifting straps and slings must be checked for damage (cracks, deformations, damage to the labeling) before each use.
Use only in the temperature range -40 °C to +100 °C (valid for polyester and polyurethane) or up to +80 °C (valid for polypropylene). - Using the tape in conjunction with chemicals can destroy it! Carefully read the product instructions!
Cleaning with water only. - Lifting straps may only be used with suitable edge protectors (e.g. made of polyurethane/PU with a minimum thickness of 5 mm) when there are sharp edges on the goods being lifted or loaded.
- PVC and PU protective sleeves serve as abrasion protection and do not offer protection against sharp edges!
- Lifting straps and round slings must bear weight across their entire width.
- Knotted lifting straps or those that have reached the end of their service life must no longer be used.
- The seat belts must be inspected at least once a year by a qualified person.
- Improper handling of lifting straps and round slings poses a significant risk to personal life and property. People under or beside the load are particularly vulnerable. Swinging loads must be avoided!
- Please refer to the detailed operating instructions for our products as well as the regulations and guidelines of UW VGB 9a, EN 1492-1/-2, ZH 1/103a and ZH 1/324.
