Tension straps, also known as lashing straps, are woven bands with a tensioning device (ratchet/clamp) for securing and lashing cargo, for example on a loading area.
Tension straps are pre-stretched to reduce stretching during use. High-quality lashing straps are impregnated to compact the surface and make them more resistant to dirt. Standard straps are manufactured in widths of 25, 35, 50 and 75 mm. The tensile strength is between 250 and 10,000 daN.
End fittings are always securely sewn in place with special safety seams. A label with printed test characteristics (material, tear resistance, test standard) is also sewn in at this point.
Lashing equipment must be inspected at least once a year by a qualified person. This inspection must be documented. Lashing equipment must have a label indicating, among other things, the manufacturer, LC (permissible lashing force), STF (pre-tensioning force) and SHF (manual force).
If this is missing, the lashing equipment is not suitable.
Lashing straps without labels and damaged lashing straps that are ‘worn out’ must no longer be used. Lashing equipment must not be used for lifting. According to the VDI 2700 Sheet 3.1 guideline, straps must not be knotted together.
Clamping elements and connecting elements must not be subjected to bending stress.
Unsuitable extensions must not be used on clamping elements to achieve higher preload forces.
Do not stretch lashing equipment over sharp edges, use edge protectors and check the load securing after an appropriate distance has been travelled and secure it again if necessary. Before opening lashing equipment, ensure that the load is still secure without the lashing equipment and that employees cannot be endangered by falling loads.
You can achieve optimum load securing by using anti-slip mats, edge protectors and lashing equipment.
Lashing strap materials
PES lashing straps
Made from polyester with a blue label and high tensile strength. 99% of lashing straps are made from polyester (PES).
Temperature resistant from -40°C to +100°C
Softening temperature +225°C
PA lashing straps
Made from polyamide with green label. Good resistance to acids and alkalis.
Temperature resistant from -40 °C to +100 °C
Softening temperature +170 °C
PP lashing straps
Made from polypropylene with brown label. For light weights with very good resistance to acids and alkalis.
Temperature resistant from -40 °C to +80 °C
Softening temperature +140 °C
