Full load
Quantity of goods collected from a shipper for a single journey and transported without transhipment to a consignee on a single means of transport, utilising the entire capacity of the means of transport in terms of volume or weight.

Transfer of forces to pairs of working surfaces by generating frictional forces

List of consignments loaded onto a means of transport
Cargo
Quantity of goods assembled and transported for a journey on a means of transport. The cargo comprises one or more consignments.
Load carrier
Under-ride platform with or without side walls for combining goods into a loading unit
Loading unit
Handling unit formed for the purpose of transport. Consists of the goods to be transported (e.g. several small load carriers/insert frames) and the necessary transport equipment (e.g. pallet, intermediate layer, end pallet).
Megatrailer
Truck with stake body and at least 3 m loading space height
Reusable packaging
Packaging that is suitable for repeated use in delivery and transport operations.
Milk run
A special form of direct transport on a fixed route with specified pick-up times and arrival times from pick-up addresses directly to a recipient, usually without involving a transhipment facility.
Lashing down
Force-fit pressing of the load using lashing equipment
Pallets
Stackable, forklift-accessible reusable load carrier with load-bearing structure for combining goods into a loading unit (VDI 3968)

Groupage transport

Column stacking
Layers with the same packing pattern stacked identically on top of each other
Consignment
Quantity of goods that is accepted, transported and unloaded by a shipper (supplier) at a place of dispatch simultaneously for a recipient at a place of receipt and for a delivery date.
Barrier beam
Profile connected to the lorry body in a form-fitting manner across the direction of travel to secure the load
Stability
Stability moment / tipping moment relative to the tipping edge
Slats
Horizontal struts between two stanchions on lorry flatbeds with tarpaulin covers
General cargo
Individual packages that are not grouped together in larger loading units for transport.
Plate flow
Rectangular support section of pallets that allow column stacking with centred form closure (mesh box pallet)
Transport
Carriage of goods in one or more sections using one or more means of transport
Transport label
Label attached to load carriers/loading units for identification purposes
Means of transport
Unit of a means of transport for the carriage of goods (e.g. lorry)
Transhipment
Change of transport mode when transporting goods
VDA-KLT
Non-rollable load carrier made of PP, usually manually handled
Composite stacking
Layers with uneven packing patterns stacked on top of each other
Transport

Loading
All movement processes involved in loading a conveyor or means of transport
Shipper
Person or company that hands over the goods to the carrier (Section 9 GGVS/E)
Loading point
Location from which the goods are to be collected (e.g. ramp/gate)

Complete or partial wrapping of goods/merchandise to demarcate the quantity of goods, to secure the goods or to ensure the transportability of the goods in accordance with the German Commercial Code (HGB) and VDI 3968.
