The lashing angle is an important factor in load securing. The angle α is between the loading area and the lashing equipment. A minimum of 35° is recommended. There are two other important factors to consider. These are the pre-tensioning force of the lashing equipment and the pre-tensioning force of the ratchet. These also depend crucially on the lashing angle alpha (α).
Please note the following:
The smaller the lashing angle alpha (α), the lower the effective pre-tensioning force.
- A lashing angle α of 90° ensures optimum pre-tensioning force of the lashing equipment.
- A lashing angle α of 90° to a minimum of 83° achieves an acceptable pre-tensioning force.
- A lashing angle α of less than 83° should be taken into account when calculating the pre-tensioning force. The lashing angle is then included in the calculation using its sine value.
A lashing angle of less than 35° is unacceptable when lashing down and should be avoided under all circumstances.
