How does the disinfection of shopping trolleys work?

Applying the film, for example to shopping trolley handles, is incredibly quick and easy: simply peel off the protective film as you would with a sticker and attach the film to the trolley handle. The film adheres easily even to uneven surfaces. It is colourless and therefore does not alter the colour spectrum of the surfaces to which it is applied; the colours of logos on shopping trolley handles, for example, are not affected by the disinfectant film. It is also extremely pressure and scratch resistant, as well as heat resistant up to 90 °C, making it very durable.

The antiviral and antibacterial effect

The COVID-19 virus has a so-called viral envelope, which can usually be destroyed by disinfectants such as alcohol or ethanol, although soap and water are usually sufficient for disinfection. However, with soap or disinfectants, this effect is only short-term and renewed contact with a contaminated surface can result in reinfection. The situation is different when using disinfectant film: The film is coated with an anti-germ layer less than 10 micrometres thick using a process developed by the manufacturer. This anti-germ layer is both antiviral and antibacterial. The disinfectant film also seals any unevenness in the surface, creating a surface that is too smooth for pathogens to adhere to.

Durability and testing of film function

The film has a shelf life of approximately one year. Testing its functionality is very simple: if you notice that the surface is rough, you should replace it immediately. The surface tension can be checked by wetting the surface with water. If droplets form, the surface tension is intact. To check the pore tightness, paint the surface with a permanent marker. If the paint can be completely removed with an alcohol-based cleaning agent and a cloth, the pores are also intact.
