Diagonal lashing is a method of direct lashing. It is particularly useful when tie-down lashing is not possible due to sensitive, fragile goods. The lashing straps used in diagonal lashing are only tightened slightly. Direct lashing includes slant lashing and diagonal lashing. In slant lashing, the lashing equipment is attached parallel or at right angles to the loading area, whereas in diagonal lashing it is attached from one corner to the opposite corner of the load. Diagonal lashing is a particularly popular method of securing heavy loads (construction machinery). In this case, suitable lashing chains, wire ropes, etc. are often used instead of the usual lashing straps.
