The CTU packing guidelines (‘Cargo Transport Unit’, CTU, or ‘Intermodal Transport Unit’, ITU) are guidelines for packing cargo other than bulk goods in or on transport units (CTUs) when transporting by all modes of transport by water and land. The CTU packing guidelines do not apply specifically to the transport of dangerous goods, but to all types of cargo.
This refers to combined transport involving the transport of a transport unit by different modes of transport within a transport chain between the sender and the recipient.
Means of transport that are used include, for example:
1) Containers
2) Swap bodies
3) Semi-trailers
